Native of Indian subcontinent, Indo-China, Malesia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines). Elsewhere cultivated. Plant pest control (non-vertebrates) - roots contain high concentration of rotenone for the production of organic pesticides; traditionally used as vertebrate poisons (fish), eradicating head lice, crushed leaf paste for treatment of skin itchiness and abscess.
